French Meat Pie.....

It's customary to have a French Meat Pie or Tourtière on New Year's Day for good luck! So I decided to make one & boy was it GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD! I made one for my friend Mary too, her mom passed away last Sunday she had been sick for quite sometime & Mary's son Mark wasn't able to get home from Iraq in tome for the wake, which was tonight and her funeral tomorrow ~ so I thought she could use a bit of luck for the New Year!

It's very easy to make....

1lb ground turkey, beef, or pork

1lb of breakfast sausage

4 large potatoes

2 large onions

4-5 stalks of celery

one 15 oz. can of chicken stock

pepper to taste

Bells seasoning or sage if you don't have any Bells to taste

pie crust (I cheat & use ready made or crescent rolls, I stink at making pie crust)

saute onion & celery in some butter until soft, add chicken stock and ground meat & pork sausage, dice potatoes and toss in. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer, let it simmer away for about 30 minutes. Mash really good with a "masher" add seasoning to taste...If it still seems a little bit "watery" add some instant mashed potatoes to thicken up (a little trick I learned).

Spoon into bottom crust, top with second layer of crust and bake until crust is golden brown ~ very yummy but not very diet "friendly"...

Speaking of diets....I have been doing really well with watching what I eat but I really need to step it up...Nikky has the Wii Fit and she loves it,it's being aired on QVC (I just love the Q) this weekend and I might snap one up!! But I was thinking about walking or just getting moving and motivational music and then it came to me.....USMC Cadence's ~ what else could be more "MOTO", I might download some and see how they sound, make a "mix" of them and use them to do my exercising???? What do you think....

  1. I'm sorry to hear of your friend's loss. It's hard when the whole family can't be there whatever the reason. Deployments tend to make it even more difficult. :( I'm sure she appreciated the food. (Which, by the way, looks delicious!)

Had to laugh at the USMC cadences for exercise. ;) I highly recommend the Wii for exercise, but you already know that I like our Wii. lol!

Loosing your mother is really hard to deal with but having good friends like you will make it a little easier!! Those USMC cadences may work or the wii fit my niece Tracy loves it!!! Well have fun deciding!! And I think that I will be making French Meat Pie! LYLAS!!

  3. Never heard of French Meat Pie, but it looks good. I think it's so funny how different parts of the country eat such different things. Especially on New Year's Day for luck.

  4. The French Meat Pie looks delicious but doesn't look like it will fit into my diet plan for 2010:) Enjoy your day and give your friend a hug from me!

  5. We were all talking about the meat pie and could not wait to see how you make it. It looks really good. Maybe I will sneak one in next year at Cindy's for good luck!

GET THE WII FIT! I love it. It not only burns calories, but also keeps a log of your weight and how much you exercise. I never get on the scale we have here. I just turn on the wii fit and it weighs me. It is surprisingly accurate, too! I highly recommend it!!! I have some really good exercise videos, too, if you want to know what they are!
    Have a great day!!
